Welcome to Black Screenwriter Alliance

Crafting stories, shaping futures.

What Is the Black Screenwriter Alliance?

I bring together Black screenwriters to develop our scripts and writing careers so that we can amplify our voices and perspectives in film and television, and inspire future generations.

About Me

I'm Kristin Iris Johnson, a screenwriter, film producer, and development executive living in Maryland (Chicago raised!). I'm passionate about helping Black people break barriers and expand how we are depicted in film and TV. That's why I've produced over 20 features and short films; as well as co-created and wrote the supernatural drama, Wicked City, the first Black witch TV series on a network. Today, I'm building my community to help other Black screenwriters enhance their storytelling skills, develop stronger scripts, and take forward steps in their careers, so more of our stories and perspectives can be shared on screen.

Why You Should Join Us

Our community, trainings, and members are pretty special. When you join BSA you'll meet other Black screenwriters all on a journey to make an impact in the industry. Here we’re focused on the ways to make a huge difference in your writing and life.

Here are a few of the things you’ll be able to do as a member of Black Screenwriter Alliance:

  • Experience exclusive trainings, guidance, and expert conversations you can't find anywhere else.
  • Collaborate with fellow Black screenwriters to enhance your scripts and elevate your storytelling skills.
  • Expand your professional network and connect with like-minded individuals who support and nurture your writing career.
  • Make better well-informed decisions about your writing craft and moving your film career forward.

When You Join Today

When you join Black Screenwriter Alliance today, you’ll get access to our:

  • Table Reads: Attend virtual group table reads where members share sections of their treatments or scripts and receive constructive feedback from fellow Black screenwriters. This activity fosters collaboration, networking, and improves overall writing skills. (includes archive of replays)
  • Industry Expert Conversations: Attend live virtual conversations with successful Black screenwriters, directors, actors, producers, and more, who share their experiences, insights, and techniques. These conversations help members learn from professionals and develop valuable industry understanding. (includes an archive of replays)
  • Writers Labs & Trainings - Participate in live workshops and on-demand trainings that help members sharpen their writing craft, develop stronger scripts, and equip members to better navigate the film/TV industry. These exclusive trainings promote a deeper understanding of storytelling and inspire new ideas in the members' writing journey. (includes archive of replays)
  • The Writers' Suite - like "Office Hours" this live call is an opportunity for members to ask me their burning questions about their story, writing, and the film industry, and get direct personalized guidance for their situation. These calls offer the nurturing, encouragement, and support members need to make confident decisions.

But Wait! There's More...

The truth is, it takes more than writing a script to make it in this industry. You have to have the mental fortitude to keep going. That's why I've added special bonus content to improve your mind and body for better writing. In the "Wellness Cafe" section inside you'll find:

  • Workbooks and Extras - These offerings help members build confidence and breakthrough the fear, anxiety, and imposter syndrome that might hold them back. Members develop the tools to cultivate a mindset that will help them achieve their goals.

  • Yoga for Writers - These SHORT beginner-friendly practices help boost members creativity, improve focus, and reduce anxiety so members have more productive writing sessions.
  • Quick Video Exercises - Supporting the body will support the creative mind. These quick exercises for mobility, breathing, and more, teach members how to recover from stress and daily living so they can have more productive writing sessions AND live better in their bodies.

We often think of writing as a solitary activity; but getting your script on screen is a huge collaboration. The connections you make here can carry throughout your career. Together we'll go further in building a legacy that will inspire future generations!
